BLEPHAROPLASTY

EYELID AESTHETICS (BLEPHAROPLASTY) :

With the advancement of age and the effect of gravity, skin loosening, excess and sagging occur on the eyebrows, upper and lower eyelids, and with this, especially in the lower eyelids, there may be bagging with the forward herniation of fat tissues. In addition to causing aesthetic appearance disorder, this situation can prevent the person from seeing by the sagging upper eyelids closing the front of the eye. With aesthetic eyelid surgery, the excess skin is removed and the membrane in front of the herniated fat tissue is strengthened and – or the excess fat mass forehead. In this way, both a beautiful appearance is obtained and the person can see comfortably. Eyelids are the least scarring part of the human body. Eyelid aesthetics are generally applied to people over the age of 30, who have started to develop sagging and bagging in the upper and lower eyelids. Depending on the patient’s current complaints, only the upper or lower lids or both the lower and upper lids can be operated on at the same time. The operation takes 1-1.5 hours on average. It is possible to go home the same day.

Postoperative :

The early period after surgery usually passes on at ease. There may be swelling and bruising around the eyes. Dry eyes, burning sensations, and blurred vision may occur. Tears may increase, and eyes may be disturbed by light for a while. The patient may not be able to completely close their eyes in the first days. These are expected events that pass by themselves within the first week. Stitches are removed after 3-5 days. The person can return to work after 3 days. If the patient uses contact lenses they can do so after a week.

What is Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It’s done for cosmetic reasons or to improve vision when excess skin impairs sight.

Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates are adults with:

  • Droopy or sagging eyelids
  • Puffy upper lids or under-eye bags
  • Good overall health and no serious eye conditions
  • Realistic expectations about the outcome
Is eyelid surgery purely cosmetic?

Not always. While many undergo it for aesthetic enhancement, others need it to improve vision when droopy upper eyelid skin obstructs their sight (this is considered functional blepharoplasty).

What does the procedure involve?

Blepharoplasty is typically done under local anaesthesia with sedation. Our surgeon makes incisions along natural lines of the eyelids to remove or reposition tissue and then closes the incisions with fine sutures.

What is the recovery like?
  • Swelling and bruising are common for 1–2 weeks.
  • Most people return to normal activities within 10–14 days.
  • Full healing may take a few months.
  • Cold compresses and prescribed ointments help speed healing.
What are the possible risks or side effects?

Like any surgery, blepharoplasty carries risks:

  • Infection
  • Dry or irritated eyes
  • Scarring
  • Temporary blurred vision
  • In rare cases, difficulty closing eyes or asymmetry
Will I have visible scars?

Scars are minimal and typically hidden in the natural creases of the eyelids. With proper care, they usually fade significantly over time.

How long do results last?

Results can last 5–10 years or longer. However, the aging process continues, so changes may occur over time. Upper eyelid surgery results tend to last longer than lower lid ones.

Can blepharoplasty be combined with other procedures?

Yes. It’s often done along with:

  • Brow lift
  • Facelift
  • Laser skin resurfacing
  • Dermal fillers
