RHINOPLASTY

NOSE SURGERY (RHINOPLASTY):

Mediglobe works with experienced and professional teams for your nose (rhinoplasty) surgery. Mediglobe’s health tourism team works with hospitals in Turkey that comply with European standards and create bespoke treatment packages.

Rhinoplasty is nose reshaping and restructuring surgery. The aim is to improve the nose functionally and aesthetically. Rhinoplasty is usually requested by young adults between the ages of 18 and 35. In cases where nasal congestion is advanced, surgery can be performed at an earlier age. It is very important to preserve the physiological functions of the nose while obtaining an aesthetic nose. The nasal septum divides the nose into two equal parts, forming the main support mechanism.

Septum deviation may occur due to genetics or trauma. In addition, enlargement of the turbinates’ originating from the lateral nasal wall may also cause respiratory problems. The mucous membrane covering the inside of the nose may enlarge and swell due to allergies and smoking. All these reasons can cause nasal congestion in the patient. Photographs should be taken before surgery. Photographs are taken from 6 different directions, including the front view, 2 sides, 2 obliques, and the base. Additional photography can be done depending on the patient’s condition. It is necessary to photograph again 6 months and 1 year after the operation.

There are two main approaches to rhinoplasty:

  • Endonasal (closed): Since all incisions are made through the nose in the endonasal approach, scars do not occur on the skin.
  • External (open) approach: the external approach has become popular due to its advantages. In this approach, a V-shaped incision is made through the narrowest part of the nostrils. This method, which does not leave a visible scar, is preferred by 90% of doctors.

Successful results are obtained with the endonasal approach performed with the professional team in the hospitals we have contracted with. The operation may take between 1 hour and 6 hours depending on the existing nasal deformity. After the septum deviation is corrected, all deformities are corrected one by one according to the preoperative plan. If there is a hump (arch) on the back of the nose, it is removed, the irregularities are corrected, and if necessary, the bone side walls of the nose are broken and the opening in the nasal back is closed. Interventions are made for the cartilage at the tip of the nose. Cartilages obtained from the septum are used during surgery to make various corrections, support the tissues or give the desired shape. The incisions made at the beginning are closed by suturing. A tampon can be placed inside the nose. The back of the nose is protected with plaster or special moulds and the operation is finalised.

Postoperative:

You should rest in bed for 1 week after the operation. You can wash your face and hair without getting the dressings wet. You may experience swelling on your face 3-4 days after the operation. Mostly, the swelling will decrease within 2-3 weeks. Bruises that occur after surgery can last up to 2 weeks. It usually disappears after the 10th day. You can use lenses around 2 days after the operation.

What is rhinoplasty (nose job)?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape or resize the nose. It can be done for cosmetic reasons (appearance) or functional reasons (to improve breathing).

What can rhinoplasty fix?
  • A hump or bump on the bridge
  • A wide or narrow nose
  • A droopy, bulbous, or asymmetrical tip
  • Crooked or off-centre nose
  • Nasal asymmetry from trauma
  • Breathing issues caused by structural problems (like a deviated septum)
What’s the difference between open and closed rhinoplasty?
  • Open rhinoplasty: A small incision is made across the columella (between the nostrils). Gives full access and is ideal for complex reshaping.
  • Closed rhinoplasty: Incisions are made inside the nostrils. No visible scars, but less visibility for the surgeon — best for minor adjustments.
How long is the recovery?
  • Initial recovery: 1–2 weeks (bruising and swelling)
  • Return to work: Often within 7–10 days
  • Final results: Swelling can take 6 months to 1 year to fully resolve
  • Avoid contact sports or glasses on the nose for several weeks
Is rhinoplasty painful?

Not usually. Most patients describe mild to moderate discomfort, tightness, or congestion rather than pain. Pain is usually managed with mild medication.

Will I have scars?
  • Open rhinoplasty may leave a small scar under the nose, but it usually fades well.
  • Closed rhinoplasty leaves no external scars.
Can rhinoplasty improve breathing?

Yes. If functional issues (like a deviated septum) are addressed, breathing may improve. This is called septorhinoplasty when both cosmetic and functional goals are combined.

How long do results last?

Rhinoplasty results are generally permanent, but the nose can subtly change over time due to aging or trauma.

What are the risks?
  • Infection, bleeding
  • Unsatisfactory results (requiring revision)
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Skin numbness or scarring
Will my nose look fake or unnatural?

Not if done properly. Modern rhinoplasty focuses on natural-looking results that enhance facial harmony rather than giving a “done” or artificial look.
